We run Physiotherapy-led Pilates classes and a small Women’s Health Physiotherapy clinic in Newry, NI. As Physiotherapists, we are passionate about movement and how good it is for your body- nomatter your age, size, fitness level or stature! With 206 bones and 640 muscles in your body- you were simply made to move!
Pilates is a popular exercise technique developed by Mr Joseph Pilates himself, once a sickly child, he was interned during WW1 with other German citizens living in England at the time. It was here that “Contrology”- the system that has been developed into what we now know as Pilates, was born. Pilates believed that mindful movement, using the breath and learning awareness of the alignment of the spine was one of the keys to good health. We think he was onto something good!
Pilates is a great exercise method for everyone, however, we say find an activity that you love, and stick to it. Pilates can be particularly beneficial for those with joint pain or chronic conditions, as it is low impact and our classes are taken entirely at your own pace. As Physiotherapists, we can modify each exercise to suit you and any condition you have, so you will always feel safe and capable in class. We can also offer 1:1 Pilates sessions, either on the mat or on our Pilates Reformer.
As two young women with families, we are also passionate about Women’s Health. As Physiotherapists we are all too aware of the physical toll pregnancy, labour and birth can take on women’s bodies, and the fact that we get little to no respite from our normal day to day responsibilities while we go through these changes. This can lead us to have painful and sometimes embarrassing symptoms, not knowing who or where to turn to for help. This is why we are delighted to bring The Mummy MOT to Newry- a specialist postnatal physiotherapy assessment so that all mums can have access to a tummy, breathing, pelvic floor and musculoskeletal check and treatment as required with expert guidance towards their individual goals.
